Reviving Tradition: Our Story

The Festival began in 2009 as a modest event aimed at bringing the African community in Dallas-Fort Worth together. Founded by George Omoth, the festival quickly grew in popularity, becoming a yearly tradition that highlighted the vibrant cultures of Africa. For nearly a decade, it served as a vital platform for cultural exchange, where people of all backgrounds could come together to celebrate and learn about the diverse heritage of the African continent. However, the festival took a hiatus after 2018 due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, with a renewed spirit and a strong commitment to reviving this beloved tradition, we are excited to bring the DFW Africa Fest back to life. Our mission remains the same: to foster cultural understanding and celebrate the rich traditions of Africa through music, food, art, and community engagement. As we return, we are more dedicated than ever to making this festival a cornerstone of cultural celebration in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, connecting the African diaspora with the wider community and keeping the spirit of Africa alive in North Texas.
